Andorra is a tiny country situated in the Pyrenees on the border between France and Spain. It is one of the oldest nations in Europe and is made up of picturesque villages with Romanesque churches and houses, narrow valleys and mountainous landscape.
As well as a pleasant, warm climate in the summer, Andorra benefits from an abundant winter snowfall, making it the ideal choice for skiing holidays. Its tax-free status makes it an affordable option too and with low-cost airlines flying into airports in both France or Spain and quick and easy transfers by taxi, bus or coach to the various nearby resorts, means Andorra is an increasingly attractive haven for tourists.
The capital of Andorra is Andorra La Vella, a popular spot for skiers as it is close to all of Andorra’s ski resorts and just a short private transfer from the airports. The capital is also good for shopping and has a good variety of restaurants and nightlife.
Food: With a stronger influence of Spanish, rather than French culture, the food in Andorra is Catalonian in style with sausages and cheeses on the menu. Specialities are Trinxat (a dish made of potato and cabbage) and Coques (flavoured flat cakes).
Nightlife: Most of the nightlife can be found in the capital, Andorra La Vella, which has a variety of clubs and bars to choose from.
Shopping: Andorra is a prosperous country thanks to the millions of tourists it attracts every year and its tax-free status. Visitors can explore the many shops the capital, Andorra La Vella has to offer, and benefit from considerable savings compared to its neighbouring countries in Europe.
Days out: Visit The Casa de la Vall (House of the Valley), Andorra’s parliament building, the Museu Nacional de l'Automòbil (National Museum of Motorcars) or the Església de Santa Coloma, Andorra’s oldest church.
Events: Andorra's village festivals take place between July and September.

In recent years the resorts have all joined together so that your ski pass covers neighbouring areas. As a result there are now just two main areas known as Vallnord and Grandvalira.
Arcalis
The local’s choice, Arcalis has good skiing and reliable snowfall and is a reasonable taxi or bus transfer from the capital, Andorra La Vella. This ski area is located at the head of the valley from El Serrat

Soldeu
Although, not one of Andorra’s prettiest villages, if you are after a cheap and active break Soldeu benefits from lots of lively bars and is reasonably priced. Most of the accommodation can be found in El Tarter, which is relatively quieter. The skiing is mainly open mountains with some wooded runs. Soldeu offers excellent links with Pas de la Casa giving good access to the other slopes. The Andorra airport transfer from France is relatively quick and it is a reasonable journey for Andorra airport shuttle transfers from Spain.

Andorra is just a couple of hours transfer journey away from airports in France or Spain. Low-cost airlines fly into Barcelona and Girona which are two to three hours away from Andorra by airport transfer. Alternatively, you can fly to Toulouse in France, which is a similar distance away from Andorra by airport transfer.
