The deep blues of the Mediterranean, breath-taking mountain scenery and the romantic setting combine to make the Neapolitan Riviera one of Europe's most special holiday destinations.
The beaches are not the main attraction of this area and are generally small and pebbly, although sand beaches can be found in Maiori and beyond (near Amalfi). A variety of sports are available, such as tennis and fishing. Pickpockets can be a problem in large towns so it is advisable to carry money in a belt or inner pocket. Formal wear is expected when visiting religious buildings.
Food: Most famous for it's pizza, this is also the region which invented pasta. Try the many varieties with a generous sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. Ample servings of all specialities ensure that visitors will never go hungry!
Nightlife: Whilst there are a range of night clubs and late night bars, most visitors to region come to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere, beautiful beaches and fine food, making this a popular destination for couples and families.
Shopping: A wide range of shopping is available from Gucci outfits and Prada bags to fabulous foods and wines. Don't forget to take home a bottle of Balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil and of a course a cheeky Chianti to remind you of the trip once back home. The centre of Sorrento shopping is undoubtedly via S. Cesareo, the heart of the town.
Days out: Enjoy the panoramic views from Mount Vesuvius; explore the near perfect remains of Pompeii or the famous gardens of the Isle of Capri and picture postcard Amalfi. While the opportunity to take visit to the Eternal City, Rome, should not be missed. |
