Travel Guide To The Pisa & Florence |
 |
 |
There is more to Pisa than it's famous tower. The city boasts one of the most beautiful squares in the world, the Campo dei Miracoli. The Tuscan countryside surrounding Pisa is also well worth a visit.
Food: No meal would be complete without Bruschetta, thick toasted bread rubbed with garlic and soaked in olive oil topped with tomatoes and onions.
Nightlife: Not much for night owls, though as a student town there are plenty of bars and the atmosphere is typically Italian.
Shopping: High fashion is always available in Italy. Leather goods are a particularly good bargain.
Days out: Spend a day in Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance, as well as being famed for its designer shopping.
Milan, Italy
The economic and fashion captial of Italy, is also rich in history and architecture. This is the richest part of northern Italy, where style rules.
Bring your best clothes if you plan on holidaying here. Milanese is very fashion conscious and dressing down is virtually unheard of!
Food: This is a fast moving city, so food on the go is very popular. Bar snacks here are filling and varied as well as good value for money.
Nightlife: Many of the main nightclubs shut down in the summer as staff head for the beach, though in a city of this size there is always somewhere to have fun into the small hours. Visit La Scala, one of the world's great opera houses.
Shopping: Milan ranks alongside Paris and London as one of Europe's greatest places to shop. All the major Italian designers are based here so this is label heaven. Window shop in the Via Borgospesso, Montenapoleone and Via della Spiga; more affordable clothes and shoes are sold around Corso Vittorio Emanuele II.
Days out: Take a trip out of town and visit one of the hundreds of medieval and renaissance towns and villages surrounding the city.
Events: The Opera season at the world famous La Scala opens on 7th December every year, book well in advance as this is a real favourite with the Italians and tourists alike. |
